About / FAQ's

Below are 10 of the most frequently asked questions about Savior Martial Arts®. If you have a question that is not listed below, please go to our Contact Us page and send us a message, or call us now in Virginia Beach @ (757) 685-KICK (5425) or in Chesapeake @ (757) 753-6137.

1.) How can a Christian be involved in karate or participate in other martial arts?

Many martial arts are taught from either a non-Christian faith base or are ego-driven and may well not be appropriate for Christians. You’ll find our purpose and Christian perspective refreshing and encouraging in every aspect.

2.) Do I have to call to set up a trial class?

Yes, we want to give you personal attention and the best experience possible.  There is no obligation to enroll. We don't like being pressured into buying, so we won't do that to you.  Please call 757-685-KICK (5425) for a free private lesson.

3.) Do I have to sign up for a particular class schedule?

We are very flexible.  We suggest students train 2 or 3 times per week to put in enough time to thoroughly learn the material and progress at the expected rate. At our full time locations, students are free to attend at different class times as their personal schedules change.

4.) What should I wear to my first class?

Wear any clothing you find comfortable and can easily move around in. We only request no skirts or dresses, for modesty.

5.) I have a 6 year old. Should I choose Lil’ Dragons or Karate?

Generally, whether or not the child is reading well is a good gauge of a child’s preparedness for the full karate program. Our Enrollment Director is well prepared to help parents make the best choice for their child.

6.) I can’t get my child to behave at home. Can you teach them some discipline?

Discipline and respect are two major components of our curriculum. Although we can offer no guarantees, we have countless success stories of children who have responded well to the positive peer pressure of the behavior standards we expect.

7.) My child has a belt from another school. Will that rank transfer to your system?

No, every martial arts system is distinct in its ranking. Your child’s training may, however, allow faster progression through our ranking system.

8.) How long does it take to earn a Black Belt?

Students who train consistently, generally reach Black Belt in 3 to 4 years. Adults typically progress faster than young children.

9.) My child has a handicap. Can you teach him / her?

That depends totally on the level of the handicap. We have handicapped students who, as a result of strong personal motivation, have done remarkably well. Our staff is not professionally certified to teach special needs children, but we do love teaching kids and helping them grow. Contact us to discuss the possibilities.

10.) I'm not a Christian.  Is this a problem?

No, we welcome all new students. However, like the physical requirements for rank progression, our spiritual requirements remain the same, regardless of your spiritual beliefs.
